[Pluto-help] loading linux without a multibooter program

Hi, i'm a new linux user and i' ve istalled ono my computer windows 98 se and linux madrake 7.2 and i've got a question:
is it possible to load linux with a program called "loadlin" directly from
windows (without any os-booter) at startup ?
i tried to use loadlin with this options:

loadlin.exe vmlinuz

but after some seconds appers a messages "kernel panic" unable to mount
......"
