[Pluto-help] VNC con linux server

Ho appena installato  VNC su un portatile con RH 6 che voglio usare come
server (vncserver parte e dalla stessa macchina riesco a far partire
vncviewer) e su un pc con Win2000 che voglio usare come client. La mia
conoscenza delle reti e' molto bassa e non riesco nemmeno a far fare ping da
una delle due macchine verso l'altra (il notebbok ha come ip 100.100.100.162
e sul pc ho messo come ip 100.100.100.163 (??? e' ok?). Se uso una rete
standard windows vedo le due macchine normalmente

con la suse 7.3 ho collegato al PC un nuovo medem, qindi ho lanciato da KDE
il rilevamento hardware, ma in questa fase ho avuto un blocco totale della
macchina, ho dovuto resattare, e al riavvio ho visto il solito messaggio

ma dopo aver dato la password di root, la risposta è:

bash# : lamiapassword: command not found

cosa devo fare?
