[Pluto-help] mount cdrom

Ave lista,
non riesco a leggere i cd (sia audio che dati) con la mia linux box slack 9.0
ho due lettori: hdc e' il cdrw e hdd e il lettore cdrom.
queste sono le due righe del mio /etc/fstab che riguardano hdc e hdd:

/dev/hdc         /mnt/cdrw        auto        noauto,owner,ro  0   0
/dev/hdd         /mnt/cdrom       auto        noauto,owner,ro  0   0

in teoria, come facevo fino a poco tempo fa, dando un semplice
"mount /dev/hdd" dovrebbe automaticamente riconoscere il tipo di fs e montarlo 
in /mnt/cdrom ma invece ecco l'output error:

# mount /dev/hdd
/dev/hdd: Input/output error
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

ok ho capito l'errore e quindi specifico il tipo di fs e la destinazione:

# mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom
mount: block device /dev/hdd is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdd, or too many 
mounted file systems

perche'? dove sbaglio?
