[PLUTO-help] Linux Kernel source tree not found. stop.

OK il problema è il seguente, ho installato una RedHat Enterprise 3 AS e dato che non ha riconosciuto la scheda di rete durante l'installazione ho proceduto con l'installare i driver manualmente.
Ho effettuato due tentativi (diciamo molti e molti di piu') uno da rpm e uno da sorgente, tutti e due terminanti con il seguente errore "linux Kernel source tree not found. stop."
procedure per rpm:

rpm -ivh bcm5700-7.3.5-1src.rpm

cd /usr/src/redhat/ ( ho provato cosi' e anche direttamente in SPECS)

rpm -bb SPECS/bcm5700.spec
--//che non funziona//--

rpmbuild -bb SPECS/bcm5700.spec
--//che restituisce il seguente//--

-> .....
    Makefile:46 ***Linux Kernel source tree not found. stop.
    error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.47142 (%build)

    RPM build errors:
    Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.47142 (%build)


allora decido di provare da sorgente e scompatto il tar.gz in una cartella in home, eseguo comandi da istruzioni del readme

cd src
make
--//e come da copione..il seguente output//--

    Makefile:46 ***Linux Kernel source tree not found. stop.

e quindi il solito messaggio di errore, non arrivo neanche a caricare i moduli...peccato..
p.S: mi sono autenticato root per effettuare il tutto
      su paswd
