Hai perfettamente ragione, ma non avendo roba scsi, avevo lasciato il
ramdisk come seconda opzione, solo perchè ultimamente la mia bibbia di
riferimento è LFS, che in una delle FAQ recita:

Is support for the hard drive compiled into the kernel, not just as a
module. (Modules are stored on the filesystem. If a driver needed to

well ... you know ... ;)

Quindi, _supposto_ che si riesca a fare andare il kernel col controller
statico, il disco ram dovrebbe essere ininfluente a quel punto, almeno
per questa parte di configurazione...
