I suggerimenti di Paride sono stati risolutivi.
Riporto in dettaglio il procedimento che ho seguito per importare i
messaggi di posta da Outlook in Thunderbird (sempre sooto Windows)
e da qui in Gnus o in Evolution.

I downloaded the package `Thunderbird Setup 1.0.7.exe'
and installed it into my MS Windows xp system simpy clicking
the icon.
I launched thunderbird and with:
 
 Tools > Import

I imported Outlook mail into thunderbird. It took about
20 minutes for my 160 MB mail.

To import mail into Gnus:

I started Gnus, and from the Group buffer did: `G f' and gave gnus
the following path:

/mnt/hda1/Documents and Settings/rodolfo/Dati applicazioni/Thunderbird/Profiles/rmdmn2ve.default/Mail/Local Folders/Outlook Posta0.sbd/mail_folder

, where `mail_folder' is the arbitrary name of a certain plain text
file corrispondent to a certain Outlook folder.

To import mail into `Evolution':

I started evolution, then did `C-i' and imported the above single
plain text file, choosing the `evolution' folder in which I wanted it
to be imported.
